Dress

I was really going to be somebody by the time I was 23.

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

A couple of weeks ago the lovely people at New Look Inspire contacted me and asked if I'd like to try some items from their Inspire range to create a summer of grunge look.

I love the New Look inspire range and have a lot of their items and a lot of the things I've bought for holiday are from their.

I'm not sure i'm the grungiest of people, i've never had that phase. The grungist thing I care to admit to us not washing my hair for 4 days. The first thing I went for was a V Neck burnout tshirt. This was £3 in the sale. I love this, it's soft and slightly longer at the back.

I think this is my most casual look, I wore it with my sainsburys boyfriend Jeans and cardie from Tesco. The bag is from TK Maxx and that unwashed mop was covered with my bandana.

My next outfit was with Plus North in mind. This might be a contender for friday night or saturday day. With the exception of my Primark Necklace I truly am the woman at New Look!

From the feet up Sandals New Look. I got these on the plus size bloggers shopping day when we went to the Arndale in manchester.

Jeans T shirt and Kimono all came via the PR team. The Jeans are the Skinny navy jeans and at £14.99 full price they are a bargain. I really struggle with  Jeans but 9 times out of 10 I go for New Look Skinnies. I used to love the NL Hula jeans. This is the third pair of NL skinnies i've had and i doubt they will be the last. They have a good amount of stretch. I got them in the 24 as i'd rather have to belt jeans than have to spend all day breathing in.

The white Tshirt is a Vest top and came in a two pack. The other one is neon peach / orange. On the website I thought it coral (I didn't read the description) It's not really my colour but I think once i've got a bit of a tan I'll wear it. The vest tops are fairly long which will be great on holiday and good for tucking in.

My final choice is also with Plus North in mind. I'm a dress kinda girl and almost bought this dress in the blue a couple of weeks ago, but I have the playsuit with this pattern top in the blue.

Again this might come as no surprise I have a few dresses from New Look in a similar style going back over the past two or three years. I find them really easy to wear and I'm happy wearing them for work, out shopping and on a night out. I know a lot of people like to compartmentalise their lives by clothes but I like my clothes to multi task and i'm not afraid to be seen in the same outfit twice.

Which is a good job as I wore it twice in one day. I went to a babyshower in the afternoon.

I came home tried on pretty much everything I own and put the dress back on. I added more blusher, change my necklace and my false eyelashes and I was ready for a night out!

A big thank you to the New Look team for asking providing these items free of charge for me to style these items, as always all opinions are my own.  It might not be summer grunge but it is very me, I have a New Look order that for my holiday that I will be sharing with you all soon.

What do you think? Do you like New Look?

#BlogEveryDayAugust2014 Day 12 -Savoury or Sweet, Discuss ...

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

It's not to late to join in and link up. A list of the prompts can be found HERE

Savoury or Sweet

Usually I'd say savoury, no questions asked and in my note book for this prompt I put  SAVOURY

But I prefer the mix of sweet and savoury, I always go for the mixed pop corn. or if i'm at the cinemaq buy salt popcorn and add in minstrels. When I was at school we always used to buy Pretzel flips (They did come back for a while)

I also used to love dipping the fish and chip crisps in chocdip pots! I found some fish and chips in morrison this week and while they are amazing they're not quite how I remember them. I remember them having as slightly fishy smell / taste and these are now just salt and vinegar. I still have the urge to dip them in Chocolate!

Another new LOVE is Cadburys and Ritz biscuits! these are amazing but I could do with a bit more biscuit to my chocolate.

So a bit of a cop out really! I love both equally!

Tomorrow -  False Eyelashes / Eye makeup

#BlogEveryDayAugust2014 Day 10 - Room Tour

Sunday, August 10, 2014

Something a little different from me today. I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos recently and in the past I was very much wary and I have a thing where I don't like "real people" talking say on a phone in show or a live tv show. So the internet full of real people being allowed to speak had me on edge. BUT i've for a few youtubers that I love.

They Inspired me to record a tour of my room. there is no sounds, there may or may not be music thanks to youtube's editing but i don't know if thats gonna work. (I wrote Werk!)

My room is small and hard to photograph well so recording it worked for me.

If you like this video, i'd love it if you would subscribe to my channel and leave me comments and I will think about doing some other videos in the future

#BlogEveryDayAugust2014 Day 8 - Make something

Friday, August 08, 2014

If you want to join in with this challenge the list of prompts can be found Here, you can link up as often or as little as you like.

Make Something

I had such good intentions when I wrote this prompt and I have done nothing. I put a pizza in the oven the other night and added some extra mushrooms!

I tried to make my own Icetea, but it has to be one of the worst things i've ever tried! It didn't help that we didn't help we didn't have any ice so i tried to freeze it thinking I'd leave it a couple of hours to make a slush but forgot about it and it was frozen solid and when i tried it it was just tannin flavor and it was  just disgusting.

I might have to revisit this at some point and let you know when I do actually make something!!!

#BlogEveryDayAugust2014 Day 7 - Holiday Essentials

Thursday, August 07, 2014

It's not to late to join in and link up. A list of the prompts can be found HERE

In some ways this challenge is a bit of a countdown / distraction to my holiday! 6 weeks and 6 days till I go away. Not that i'm counting.

I wanted to do a few holiday related posts and I really need to take pictures of all the lovely new stuff i've bought and put away for my holiday.

There are always things I forget about taking so I want to know what are your holiday essentials.

I've made a list of 10 things I always want to take away, but I know i've missed things. what should i be taking away with me?

1. Bikini's - I don't like tankini's or swimming costumes unless i'm doing "proper" swimming". I hate my belly being cold and wet, so with a bikini I can easily get try and I don't really care if people are looking at me. It's only when people make comment like, ooo aren't you brave, what if people look at you? No i'm not brave, It's not something i've ever thought about and I quite like having a tanned belly! People will look at me and I will look at them and unless they are total turds they will Smile, Nod and get on with what they are doing. If they want to talk about me or anyone else good luck to them, it's nice to know i've made their holiday!!! (Not really) But what can I do about it.

I have 3 new ones, 2 are from Sainsburys and one is from ASOS.

2. Hair Protector - I don't know the real name for this and it could be why I can't find any. In the past i've had a hair mist with SPF in it. my scalp always burns and I want something to protect it. Do you know of any? Let me know.

3. Insect Repellent- I don't know if i'll need this in Tenerife in September. I'm assuming there will be some bity things around

4. Hair Grips / Headbands - My hair will be too short to tie up. All that effort to grow and then I get it cut. I need my hair off my face while I sunbathe.I will probably take a bandanna rather than a headband

5. Sun Cream - Obvious and not sure why this isn't number one. I never use less than factor 20 and i'll be taking factor 30 with me. Nothing worse than burning. I still get a tan with the higher factors and i'd hate to miss out on any of my holiday being burnt. I also buy a separate facial sun cream and regular sun creams make my face sting.

6. Exfoliater - Gets rid of dead skin cells and sun cream and helps to prevent peeling

7. Under eye roller - I took one last year and kept it in the fridge. When I got too hot getting ready I'd roll it on my pulse points. The one I had was only £1 so I didn't feel like I was wasting it

8. Cycling Shorts - Don't worry \I won't be cycling. I have a couple of pairs that are the same fabric as leggins. I wear them under dresses to prevent chub rub. It also helps if it's windy and your frock blows up you're not flashing next weeks washing

9. Antihistamines - I suffer from prickly heat and hay fever and these are my best friend. I take them most days over here but I double up on holiday (I have checked with a doctor. Check with your own before using medication differently than prescribed)

10. Books - I read a lot of holiday and ut tends to average one book a day

There are of course other things I take. Clothes, Shoes, Makeup, Cracked heel cream, deodorant, Passport, Tickets etc.

BUT i think the above list are my holiday top 10. I also used my new towel as the background

Tell me your Holiday essentials

Ps I will be taking a hairbrush!!

Tomorrows post will be Make something (Share a recipe or just what you had for tea)

#BlogEveryDayAugust2014 Day 6 - Restaurant Visit Solita NQ

Wednesday, August 06, 2014

It's never too late to join in, If you want to join in with this challenge the list of prompts can be found Here

Restaurant Visit - Solita NQ, Manchester

A couple of weeks ago I met my friend in Manchester and we wandered up to the NQ looking for food and  cocktails. The weather was warm and we didn't know where to go when she Spotted Solita had an outside terrace and a free table.

We settled ourselves down with a bottle of Rosé and set about putting the worlds to rights.

When it came to ordering my friend remembered about an Onion Thing we'd seen go past last time we'd been in.

We asked if it was big enough to share and were told it could be. I can confirm it is big enough to share. It is amazing and if like us you don't want to have to ask for the Onion Thing. It's called The Solita Onion!

It looks amazing, it tastes amazing. My only criticisms is we needed more dip! (We like dip)

I didn't get a picture of my main course but I had the Bacon Double Cheese Burger and it is really good, so good I had it last time I went and will most likely have it next time I go.

We skipped dessert and went for a PornStar Martini. This was delish and lethal. Don't judge us too much but we always mix our drinks so we finished with a bottle of Batcha. I can confirm Orange slices don't go into bottles as easily as lemon ot lime.

It is a really relaxed atmosphere and really good food. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

What was the last Restaurant you visited?

Tomorrow Prompt is: What are your holiday essentials? (Clothes, products Misc that you can't live without)

I have been trying to wear makeup more often, aside from the fact I own so much of it. I do feel and look better when I wear it.

#BlogEveryDayAugust2014 Day 4 - #WeBlogMCR 2

Monday, August 04, 2014

Recent Events

Some time I feel like I don't see other bloggers for weeks on end and while the internet is a great place to meet and chat nothing beats meeting up in real life and chatting.

Holly has set up #WeBlogMCR and last week I went to the second meet up. It's such a great idea. Local Bloggers of all genres getting together, chatting. The first two meet ups have been weekday evening in Manchester City Centre which have been really handy for me to get to after work. You can read about the first one

The Second Meet Up

The second meet up was a little bit different, it was on a bus! Not just any bus but a bus filled with Wine!

Holly had booked the upstairs deck of the Casillero del Diablo Wine Legend Tour. The bus was parked just off Deansgate in Spinningfields.

I arrived early as I always do and was soon Joined by Nina and we were invited upstairs before

The views from the top of the bus were fab, I love the architecture of Manchester. The very Old, with the old, with the not so new and finally the brand new. Everything fits together and no matter how much I look, I always see something new.

I didn't catch the name of this blogger, I've put the picture up as i'm hoping someone can let me know who she is and I will remove the picture if she doesn't want it up!

Did I mention we were on a bus fully stocked with wine? We were very kindly treated the the first glass on the house. They had a wine for most tastes. I went with the Shiraz Rosé which I have to say was very nice and I will be keeping my eye out for it when I go shopping. I've mainly been drinking prosecco recently after my mums holiday to Italy.

This picture tickled me, When bloggers meet. Wine and Smart phones. There is one other surefire thing that happens when bloggers meet and that is Selfies!

Holly had prepared a few sheets and I love some of the sayings on them.

Casillero de Diablo were also hosting a competition to win a 3 liter bottle of wine. This was open to everyone who visits them (they are going round the country) Details should be on their facebook page

There were 11 I think and some i'd met at the first meet up and there were some new faces. I think with this meet up I got to speak to more people. Because were limited seats we mainly stood up and I think this allowed us to mingle more. I think I spoke to everyone at one time or another and while we split off into little groups it was easy to move round and chat.

I think it's lovely that a group of people who potentially would never all get to the same event for a brand would meet that we do and it's so easy.

I'm already looking forward to the next one which I think is in the planning stages and I think will be something different again.

A massive thank you to Holly for organising such a great evening and to the guys working on the Castillo del Diablo bus who were all really nice and provided us with a bottle of wine, Devil Horns and a poncho (Which thankfully we didn't need) to take home, which was a lovely surprise. I certainly wasn't expecting anything from them.

Here's to the next event!

Other Events

At the end on the month I'm off to Plus North in Leeds and I'm looking at booking tickets for Blog On which is in May 2015. I'm torn as it's near my Birthday and Bank Holiday weekend but oh so tempted!

What events have you been to recently? Do you know any happening in Manchester area. Please let me know, I love a good event. It's a great way to connect with other bloggers and brands.

#BlogEveryDayAugust2014 Day 3 - What was the last book you read?

Sunday, August 03, 2014

One of the great thing about blogging is getting to take part in really great things as well as meeting people and making friends.

Beth from Beth Tinkerbell  organised a book swap earlier in the year and when she arranged a second one I jumped at the chance to join in a again.

This time we did things a little bit differently, instead of being paired up with someone and discuss book choices. We were assigned a randomly selected person and given a bit of detail about their reading preferences and let loose to buy them a book.

I got to buy a book for Fleur from Wishes and Tea and I chose Elanor and Park I've just looked on her blog and the last post was her review of it and I'm so pleased she enjoyed it.

Jenny from Sunny Sweet Pea bought my book and I don't think she could have made a better choice for me. I enjoyed it from the first page to the last page.

I'm going to try and review this book. I haven't done a book review for a while so I'm going to be a bit rusty and I'm going to try and not put in any spoilers.

In The Woods - Tana French

What was the book about?

It's a crime novel set just outside Dublin. Detectives are called in to investigate the murder of a teenager in the local woods and it becomes tangled with a cold case from 1984.

Did you enjoy reading it?

I don't want to sound too gushy but I really did enjoy this book, it made me stay up late and I think that is the sign of a good book.

I don't think I have a favourite character in some ways they are all equally likable and dislike-able as the story progressed I kept changing my opinions of  people. If I had to pick a favourite I'd pick one of the people who was always present but not mentioned that much. O'Kelly the Detectives boss. He was a constant and for me he was one of the good guys.

As I was reading this I could imagine it made into a TV Series . Maybe a six part ITV drama. The characters are described really well and I could imagine all of them. I find sometimes I have a picture in my head and all of a sudden there is a line "She moved a stray blonde curl" (crap choice of words) and I think Huh! she's a brunette with a bob! however there was none of that.

What I will say while I guessed part of the ending fairly early on, I still needed to keep reading to find out if I was right, to see how they got their and I was still a little bit shocked and hadn't fully connected all the dots.

Was there anything / anyone you didn't like?

The simple answer is no, it is really well written. It's interesting and as I said before made me stay up late reading it.

There are a few things I would change if I had that kind of power. I would have a different killer, a couple of other plot twists in a different order and more than anything there is an aspect of Detective Ryan I want to know more about.

I haven't searched for any more books by the same author but I'm wondering if the same people crop up in later books and we find out more?

Would you recommend the book?

Yes, I already have. From around page 100 I kept telling my mum how good it was.

If you like crime books go for it. It's a book for grown ups and contains adult themes (Sex, Murder, Rape, Violence) so I'd say 16/18 and older.

I was trying to think of an author to liken it to and I kept thinking Linda La Plante and the one that had their books turned into an ITV Drama. Now who was it , who, who, who (I know I sound like a Hoob)

Only Bloody Linda La Plante!!! Above suspicion. (Great books and a pretty good tv show)

Score out of five?
4.5
A massive thank you to Jenny for sending me such a great book and to Beth for organising it!
We have a bit of a saying in my house and it's don't judge a book by it's cover but by it's thickness!

If like us you like a 400 page plus book this is one of them. I'd say it took me From Saturday to Thursday to read this. Mainly on the bus for 1.5 hours a day and a couple of late nights.

I'm off to look for more books by Tana French to take on holiday. I can't buy them too soon as I've got 8 weeks to wait and I can't trust myself not to read them before I go!

#BlogEveryDayAugust2014 Day 2 - Do you join in with any Linky’s or blog challenges

Saturday, August 02, 2014

When I wrote the prompts some of them were very specific to me and my little old blog. I've been through and tried to make them a bit more generic but if you are joining in please leave me a comment once you have posted so I can stop by.

Day 2 – Do you join in with Linkys or are you involved in any blog challenges

Linkys

A linky if you are not aware is where you link the post you have written to a host bloggers page via a widget. As an example a linky I do join in with occasionally is hosted by Pippa from Red Rose Mummy. Her linky is about Days out and Events. #WHWH and I really enjoy reading the posts but I don’t have enough time to participate and go round all the blogs. The Idea and correct me if I’m wrong is to link up your direct post and visit the other posts that have posted. I am also going to be joining another linky this month hosted by Becky from Does my blog make me look fat which will be a monthly fatshion challenge.

I guess this is now officially a linky - I think (Fingers and toes crossed) that I have added a linky to the bottom of my posts.

In theory it's the same one for each day and you just need to link your direct post for the day and they will all show up (I have no idea if this will work or not - please bare with me if not and I will correct tomorrow night once i'm back home in the land of WiFi)

Blog challenges

I actually am a member of quite a few blog challenges and I really enjoy them. Again I don’t always join in and recently I haven’t managed to get round to visit all the other participants but I do try.

#OMCZ

I organise one blog challenge. #OMCZ which is a fortnightly fashion challenge, the idea is to get Outside My Comfort Zone. Each fortnight a different member picks the theme and I email it round to everyone.

Love Every Body

This was more of a workshop organised by Leah from Just me Leah. Body Confidence. I have only done about 3 of them but I really enjoyed them and I think I might start them again and do them as a bit if a blog series. Plans plan plans

Suits You

This is a very new challenge and we have only done 2. This one is a bit different to anything else. The Idea is to style someone else and is organised by Leah from Thirty Something Curvy Me.  She has sent us a list of people and on the last Friday of each month we will create a style board for another blogger.

Magnificent 7th

On the 7th of each month we post based on a theme organised by Beth from Beth Tinkerbell. I really enjoy joining in this challenge, I feel like that it's a really relaxed challenge and we've had some pretty nice themes so far this year.

I really hope I haven't missed any out , I feel like I take part in more. I have in the past and I'm sure in the future.

I'm thinking of starting a monthly challenge a bit like this blog every day with a mix of themes each month. It's still work in progress but if you like the sound of it let me know by dropping me an email seeingspotsblog@gmail.com title the email "New Blog Challenge"
