Rock on Ruby Clothes and Beauty Swap - Manchester

Sunday, February 15, 2015

Last weekend I made a flying visit to a clothing and beauty swap hosted by Holly who is the face behind the t-shirt brand Rock on Ruby sadly I could only stay for about 30 mins because as soon as I'd got there I got a text to meet my mum at 2pm as she'd had enough of town and wanted to go home.

The swap was held at Font Bar  just behind Oxford Road train station in Manchester. I love this venue and have been to a couple of things here before. I didn't know what to expect as I've only been to Plus Size clothes swaps before and I didn't want to take a load of clothes and not bring anything back.

I took 4 beauty Items with me as I knew they'd be easy to carry and If i didn't make it to the event I wouldn't have to lug a lot of stuff round town with me.

The swap worked by getting a token to say what you were entitled to take away with you. The swaps I've been to have always been run on an honesty system when you bring and take as much as you want.

The room was beautifully decorated and treats galore which was a really lovely touch. It was split into things you could buy (I think from the brand) food and drink, accessories, beauty items.

I resisted the cakes and biscuits even though party rings are one of my favourites of all time. I love all the little details, it shows how much thought and attention went into the planning of this event.

I was seriously impressed with the amount of stuff people had taken and the quality I was glad I'd taken nice things. I took an Illamasqua lipstick which was totally the wrong colour for me as well as an Essence nail varnish, an NSpa nail polish and a Maybeline lipstick.

Everyone I spoke to was lovely but I didn't manage to introduce myself to anyone and I have no idea who anyone was who was there. I really need to work on this!

I had a quick browse of the rails and I don't think there were any plus sizes so I'm quite glad I didn't take any clothes. I was there quite  early and people were still arriving as I was leaving.

Because I had to leave early and it didn't look like anyone else was picking anything up and swapping just putting things out so I asked if I was okay to take some things and I wasn't sure how it was going to work checking people had only taken the same number of things they'd brought. I wish I could have stuck around to find out.

I took back three things. I have a thing about swaps where I always try to take less than I took. In my mind it helps me de-clutter and makes me feel better about that time I went to my first ever swap and took a couple of items even though I hadn't took anything (I had the OK from the organiser and have since been to many more events organised by the same people and handed in way more than I've ever taken back. That guilt complex is still with me)

All my items are from the same person but I have no idea who as she hadn't labelled anything and I really should have asked her for her details. If it was you. Thank you and please let me know who you are so I can credit you and read your blog!

Lord and Berry - Bronzer in Sunny. Bronzer is something I rarely use and I don't think I own one (That might be a total lie, I own so much I have no idea what I do and don't have) I've never heard of this brand bit the colour looks like one that would be good for my skin tone. I'm pretty addicted to YouTube at the moment and almost every get ready with me / make up tutorial uses bronzer so I thought this would be a good Opportunity to try one. On the website this retails at €27 for a full size. I've looked on Ebay and this size is going for around £5 inc. P&P.

Max Factor - Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Murano. This was a bit of a gamble as the colour looks really red and I'm not 100% sure it will work for me but I'm a big fan of cream blush and want to experiment more. I've googled a few reviews and not found that many pictures of people wearing it so I'll be interested to see how it works for me. This is around £6.99 to buy.

Colour Club Nail Laquuer in Mint - I feel like I have heard of this brand but I can't swear to it. I was immediately drawn to it because mint seems to be my preferred colour this year. I've googled the brand and can only seem to find it on Amazon for about £6.99. I didn't expect it to be that much as the logo and packaging don't look anything special but maybe I'm missing a trick.

I'm pretty pleased with my items. I'd love to know who brought them to the swap so if it was you or if you know please let me know!

Have you ever been to a swap? How did it work?
