Growing My Hair 2015 - March Update

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

I'm finally noticing a difference myself, people have commented my hair is getting longer and I'm feeling so much happier about it. There have been nice comments which I'm not used to at all! I find it so hard to take compliments.

My hair really feel like it needs a trim but I'm planning on holding off till them end of May. Waiting till just before my holiday in June.

However I'm feeling a bit torn really. If I have it trimmed now and they cut it too short it will have a chance to grow. On the other hand it will feel like it needs cutting again before I go away. My only concern is what if they cut it too short in June? I guess I'm going to have to wait and see. What would you do? I think I will wait.

It's still not quite long enough to get all up in one bobble but it's really close, I'm also loving my 90s top knot vibe that I've been rocking the past couple of weeks.

I'm trying to washing it less often, I tend to wash it every day and I know that isn't great for it but my hair gets greasy very quickly. I've tried leaving it for days when I've been off and I just can't do it for more than 3 days,

I've changed to using a solid bar shampoo and conditioner from Lush. It's stripping the colour out of my hair pretty quickly but I can happily get 2-3 days between washes. Which for my hair is amazing for me. I need to use dry shampoo on it but I'm not getting the feeling dirty or me thinking it looks dirty.

I've seen Shampoo in Urban Outfitters that I'm thinking about trying. Not Your Mothers way - Grow Your Hair Long and strong, I don't think it will actually help my hair to grow but I need to read up on it. I think if I go for a growth shampoo again it will be the Lee Stafford as I know it suits my hair.

These are the pictures from Last month. I think I can see a difference in the past month,
Can you see a difference?

Wingz Fashion Sleeves

Monday, March 30, 2015

One of my close friends told me about Wingz at some point last she and she raved about them. She likes her arms to be covered but gets very warm and didn't like to layer a long sleeve top under her dresses. For her it was an amazing concept and she has a couple of different pairs.

recently Wingz offered to send me a set to send me a pair to try for myself and I've worn them twice and both times they worked really well.

I haven't had anyone coming up to me saying why are you just wearing sleeves!!

Let me explain if you haven't heard of Wingz  before they are essentially a sleeve without a top. There is a wide range of sleeve from a simple full sleeve to a number of chiffon sleeves.

I've been loving wearing an elbow length at the moment, I choose the Black Half Length Fitted Stretch Wingz™ is a size 3 (UK 24-28) I think I could have sized down one.

You put it on like a normal top, there is a elasticated that sits under your bust but with no extra fabric adding bulk.

The first time I tried it on, it was fine I just but it on but the second time I put it on I couldn't seem to get it down at the back. I have dodgy wrists that don't like to bend at the most inconvenient times.

I simply stepped into is a pulled it up.

The firs time I wore it was with a B&W sundress from Yours Clothing, the dress has a cross over and it's the fabric over the shoulder is quite narrow. It worked well but I think the band at the back was slightly showing through the cross over at the back.

I wore it all day at work and it felt comfortable, I did feel like I needed to pull it back into place a couple of times but I think this was because I'd got two big as size and because I was concious is was showing at the back.

Their next outing was last Sunday when we went for a family meal to celebrate my grandma's 90th Birthday. I was impressed that I didn't over heat despite being in a warm restaurant having a full Sunday lunch. I also like that the sleeve / shoulder is wide enough so it doesn't poke out the side of my dress.

I chose to wear a different style of dress this time with a full back, which I think worked better. I feel like I did less wriggling and rearranging this time and that they didn't look out of place with this red, black and white dress from New Look.

I would have preferred the sleeve to be about an inch shorter and slightly tighter but again I think I should have ordered a smaller size.

I have no problem in showing my arms but while it's still quite cold outside and in my air conditioned office I think these will come into their own.

I'm going to wear them again this week with a plain back dress and see how well they blend for a seamless sleeve.

The Black Half Length Fitted Stretch Wingz™ was sent to me free of charge, as always all the opinions are my own.

Blog Events

Avalanche Restaurant Manchester

Sunday, March 29, 2015

On Monday night I was invited to spend an evening with other local bloggers and sample some food and drink at Avalanche  Restaurant in Manchester.

The restaurant is situated on Booth Street which is between King St and Albert Square. Inside is a light bright space and it was much larger than I expected. They also have a space downstairs but I didn't see this.

We were welcomed with a glass of wine while we waited for people to arrive. I met Kerrie from Wife, Mum and Student Bum, Emma from Emma-Lou look at you  and their friends.

As we were shown to a table for 4 they quickly reset it as a 5 and there was plenty of room and we didn't feel squashed in.

We started with Prosecco which was followed by a sharing starter of mixed bruschetta, arancini and fried camembert.  I don't know how many covers they did that night but the night seemed to run very smoothly, we had the luck of being one of the first tables to be seated, one of the people at the table was vegetarian and was quickly brought a platter of her own without the arancini but with some warm salsa.

This very cool looking gentleman then gave a brief welcome, it was quite hard to follow him as he didn't stop moving and he moved quickly!!

We had quite a bit of a break between the starter and main course which wasn't surprising due to the number of people and they had a live singer. I'm not best placed to comment on this as we all know how I feel about live music. For me it wasn't needed, it was too loud. I would have much preferred quieter "elevator" music to fill the space. I'm sure it made the night for a lot of people and there is no doubt she was a good singer it just doesn't float my boat.

The wine supplier came round and spoke to a few tables showing us some of the new wines Avalanche will be stocking, I didn't catch the name of his company but the white was very nice. I needed to be a little cooler for me but it was a very drinkable white.

The main course was a sharing plate with Lamb, chicken, Pawns and Lemon Sole. I don't eat lamb and I wanted to ask for a plate without but felt a bit embarrassed to ask, If it was up to me all food items would be served on separate plates to avoid cross contamination. Luckily it didn't look like the meat juices had mingled so I had some of the chicken, fish and prawns.

The prawns were some of the best I've ever tried. really tasty and I would have been happy with a plate full of them.

A trio of desserts rounded off a lovely evening, The New York Cheese cake was my winner! The Tiramisu was also very nice.

A big thank you to the team at Avalanche for an enjoyable evening, looking forward to go back with friends at some point soon.

Empties - March 2015

Friday, March 27, 2015

I was a little disappointed when I looked in my empties box this month as there doesn't seem to be a lot.

Rationalising it as I've used up a lot of things over the past few months and I've been using more full sized products which are still going strong.

Face Products

PS Love Your Skin Argan Facial Cleaning Wipes - These were also in lat months empties, they are £1 for 2 packs which you can't really argue with. I use them every few days just to wipe off my make up before washing my face.

I'm not sure they are enough on there own to get rid of everything but I noticed another two packets have appeared in the bathroom so someone in my house much likes them.

Clinique Rince-Off Foaming Cleamser Mousse - I go through phases of using this but I really do like it. I think it's quite expensive at about £17 a tube but I like how clean my face feels after I've used it and this tube lasted me (and my mum as she's just confessed she's been using it) Since last Mat which is pretty good really.

A little goes a long way and I've used every last drop. Would I repurchase? I already have.

Urban Ved Daily Purifying Facial Wash

A beauty box Item I put away for a rainy day and forgot about. I started using this in January when I went to Blackpool for the weekend. I really like it over that weekend and it went straight into the bathroom when we got home. I'd not heard if Urban Veda before but I would buy this again. The full size product is £8.99 and they do gift set with everything in range (I think it's everything) for £65 The only thing that really puts me off is postage is £5.00. This makes a £8.99 face wash £13.99.

On googling Holland and Barrett is a stockist but I can't get on their website to check.

Tresemme Renew Hair and Scalp Treatment

Another beauty box item and once I was really interested in trying. I'm not sure why as I love using hair masks but I felt like it was a bit faffy having a little tube and it reminded me of those hot oil treatments we all did in the 90s. They still sell them I spotted some in Boots last week.

After my disaster with the Vidal Sasson Hair dye my scalp was crying out for help, Rosie from A Rose Like This Tweeted me saying her mum used a tresemme scalp treatment and it reminded me I had these tucked away.

They eased my painful scalp and made my hair feel a lot better, I don't think I'd go out of my way to buy them again but they helped. If they sold this in a pot I'd buy it.

I'm thinking of saving the remaining tubes for when I go on holiday.

Toni & Guy Cleanse Dry Shampoo

After buying so many Toni & Guy sets in the Boots sales, I'm steadily working my way through the products and wonder why I don't mind more of the full size products. They are just not in my mind when I'm looking for things I guess.

I really liked this dry shampoo, It gave my hair more body without it feeling claggy or overly powdery.

I don't know if I'd buy it again mainly because of the cost. This can didn't last me any longer than any other dry shampoo of the same size. I liked it but wasn't impressed enough to rush out and buy it. BUT never say never.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle

I was really impressed with this, it really came in to it's own after the vidal sasson disaster. It helped to detangle really tight knots and smells really nice.

If anyone know where I can buy more? I've googled but can only find it on US sites.

CoLab Dry Shampoo London

This isn't my favourite, I like how it works in my hair but I'm not thrilled with the smell. I know a lot of people who say this is their favourite scent but it's a bit much for me.

I prefer the orange one, I can't remember the name of it,

I wouldn't got out of my way to buy this one again but will use the other scents in the range.

Johnson's Cotton Buds

I can't praise these enough, they are a holy grail product for me and I've wrote about them so many times I almost didn't include them.
