Last week I was invited to the first blogger event hosted by Housing Units. We all met up in the Wiken Tree restaurant which is in the emporium and fireplace centre.
It was a lovely informal event where we got a guided tour of the building by the general manager. Housing Units is massive and that is no exaggeration. It’s a place you could go for full day out even if you’re not in the market for a new fire or furniture. The restaurant is open daily and they put of different events throughout the year.
The night of our event the grotto had opened and we even got to meet Santa. I don’t think I’ve ever be in a grotto before, I was quite a soft child and I’m fairly sure I would have refused to go to one. It was quite a magical experience even at 34.
Housing units was established in 1947, It's somewhere I've always known of and it’s a place my grannie loves, a place a number of my friends love and I won’t name names but I know a few went on the Christmas section opening weekend.
Even though I’ve been a number of times over the years it was really nice to have a tour and be told about the business. They are have something to offer for every occasion. I’ve took a huge amount of photo’s which you can see as you scroll through the post and I haven’t even take a lot of pictures.
One thing that I did notice on the website and I did mean to ask about is they stock Bomb Cosmetic products which I’m so happy about. I’ve been looking for somewhere but nothing local was listed on Bombs website.
I can’t being to list the departments it goes from the Christmas department which needs to be seen to be believed, I have vlogged clips so you might want to check out Monday Vlog. There is Christmas gifts for everyone you could ever want to buy a gift for, an art section and some of the most amaing baths you have ever seen, my personal favourite was the pink tub.
There are 3 other buildings as well as the Fireplace and Emporium, one of the buildings is aimed at kids, a clearance unit as well as a department store which has a bit of everything on offer.
One thing I noticed before I went to the event was how happy and friendly all the staff were. From the doorman who let me in, the people on the shop floor and not forgetting santa’s Elves. They pride themselves on customer service and I can well believe it. I’ve worked in a department store and I can tell you I never looked all that happy.
Thank you to Housing Units for making us feel so welcome and that you for the personalised bauble and the free pen. I love free pens (Small things I know) but what I love more than anything else is personalised products. When I was growing up I only ever had two things with my name on them a book of stickers and some carebear transfers (which I wouldn't use in case I never found any more – I didn't)
Whenever I start these month long challenges life always throws a spanner in the works, this month my gran fell and I had to take her to A&E with a smashed up face. She's fine but it meant I wasn't really in the mood to blog. I also haven't had time to make up the collages I'd planned. BUT I didn't want to put this post off for much longer. Here are day's 9 through 23.
There are only 4 out of the 30 item's I've not worn yet and I'm sure I can get through these easily.
I do think I might have made this challenge a bit too easy and I think the next time I do one of these challenges I might have to include leggins and shoes, make it a bit more challenging (29 in 29 - Feb 16 - shhhh i've not decided yet)
It will be no surprise that my most worn item is my long black cardie from Primark, and this has been closely followed by my Green Collectif, The Rust coloured vest from New Look and my Sainsbury's Black Jeggins.
7 days left (well 8 as I missed a day) Here's to the last week!
DAY 13 - No Deal
Day 17 - I can't remember
November is here and as I've done in previous years I'm taking another stab at 30x30. If you don't know what that is I do have a post all about it but the idea is to pick out 30 items of clothes and create 30 outfits (over 30 days but this is flexible)
Last week I shared the 30 items I've picked out and I wanted to share with you what outfit's I've been wearing over the past 8 days.
Day 1 Sunday 1st November - I went for a meal for my Gran's Birthday, It was a meal at a pub so I didn't need to be dressed up but wearing this top made me feel like I was more formally dressed than just wearing a casual T-shirt which would be my usual Sunday choice.
I'm not doing too well at taking selfies or getting outfit pics but I've decided to make collages of what I've been wearing to give you an idea. I hope this works ok for you.
Day 2 Monday 2nd November - A work outfit, my work dress code is smart but unless someone tells me off for it I'm more of a comfort smasual kind of girl. This top is a good one for work as it's quit warm without being restrictive and the trousers are really comfy and have pockets.
Day 5 Thursday 5th November - I used to wear dresses every day but now I wear jersey trousers more than anything but I got this dress from Tesco in the sale a couple of weeks ago and decided to include it. It's really comfy but I do need a vest under it. I also think the Rust coloured vest will work well with it.
Day 6 Friday 6th November - DDF (Dress down Friday) and A trip to see Alan Carr after work. Alan Carr was amazing and I didn't feel under or over dressed.
Day 7 Saturday 7th November - I went for Afternoon Tea and Cocktails in Manchester with my Friends. We were out from 12 so I didn't want to be super dressed up but as we had a table at Manchester House booked I knew I didn't want to be too casual. This dress is from Yours but I got it from Nikki (Natty Nikki) and it was perfect. I wore it with leggins and boots. For this challenge leggins are allowed extra's as I wear them instead of tights. I guess technically I should have counted them in but my challenge my rules!
Day 8 Sunday 8th November - A day with no plans, I would have happily stayed in my PJs but I did need to nip into town for a bit. I was also working from home later on so needed to be comfy.
I'm proud of myself for sticking to the clothes for the past 8 days. Here's to the next 22 days!
I want to wear everything at least once but at the same time not over wear things.
I'm really loving the Zoella range of products, when I saw she had some new products out and Superdrug had a 342 offer on I decided to pick up a few items.
We all know how much I like hand cream and while I am working my way through my stash of around 8 tubes I couldn't resist buying a tube of the Zoella hand cream, it's beautifully packaged and I love the rose gold tube. It smells lovely and I've only used it once as I really do have to work through my stash. My hands felt nice after and I'm looking forward to using this.
I also picked up the Soap on a stick, I loved the original fizz bar and shower gel, both of which I've used previously and it's is the bath season at my house so I'm excited to try this.
My 3rd item was a tin of the solid perfume. I though this would be handy to keep in my bag or in my locker at work. I generally forget to put perfume on in a morning and don't want to carry a glass bottle around with me, I love the scent. It might be a little young for me but I don't care.
All the products are beautiful and look lovely on my shelf and they're not bad prices. Perfect to buy as gifts and there are a few Christmas gift sets about as well. With most of the products I don't think I would repurchase for myself but they are good as one off treats and I'd be made up getting some for a Christmas present.
In 2012 & 2013 I did the 30x30 project and I don't know why I didn't do it last year? It's a challenge I think about constantly through out the year and I think it is going to have to be an annual feature each November.
The idea behind the challenge is to pick out 30 items of clothing and wear them over 30 outfits, this can be over 30 days or a shorter amount of time if you get changed or over a longer period. It's totally up to you.
I like to do it over 30 days and it generally works out ok for me, as with life there are always blips or things come up. The most important thing is this is meant to be fun, if it's stressing you out or you're not finding it fun then stop. This should not be a chore.
The biggest difference I've noticed this year is I have included trousers, I don't think I've done that before or only a couple of pairs. I think I have 5 pairs of trousers and 2 pairs of jeans.
Below I'll list the items I've picked out but this year I've taken individual pictures of each item.
I've chosen to exclude leggins from this challenge as I wear them rather than tights so they are and allowed "free" item, free items also includes tights, coats, jackets, This might make it easy to do but I'm happy with my choices.
One of these year I will do a tough challenge, and include all my free items and shoes and accessories (Not sure I could get all that in my 30 items)

S&J Pale Blue
Blue & White Yours
Asda Blue Pocket
