Charity shop challenge

Charity Shop Challenge June

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Hey Lovelies,

Another charity shop challenge and some personal milestones for me.

As you probably know, I don't openly share my blogging with friends and family. (some know but not many) and I've never really told anyone. Not for any particular reason other than blogging is my thing, If I don't mention it I don't have to answer questions or deal with praise or scorn or whatever.

When I was looking for something for this challenge in Bird Cage Skipton, the woman on the till asked me if i'd been in before. I said yes I go in every time I go to Skipton and I did a charity shop challenge on my blog each moth and had used something from them a couple of months ago.

She said she wasn't really sure what a blog was but was interested in the challenge and was really positive. I had a quick browse then bravely gave her one of the cards i've had printed with my blog details. (first time i've given one to anyone who hasn't asked(I mean I initiated the giving of the card))

She then introduced me to the shop manager who gave me the correct twitter link and told me a bit around the charity they support. I know it's not really a massive deal but I felt good for talking about blogging to someone who had no idea about it.

Onwards to this months challenge.

From Bardandos A Tommy and Kate Dress £5.99 I've not heard of Tommy and Kate before but from twitter I believe they are sold on QVC but I can't find the brand on the website at the moment.

I couldn't leave Birdcage without buying anything. I got two necklaces for £5 the one I want to share with you is this lovely gold one with stars on it.

I wore the outfit today to go to Denton. The sun kept going in so I also wore my Cardie from tesco and my shoes are from Miss Selfridge.

Sarah and Emma have also taken part this month. I love there outfits.

When I drafted this post I'd said I was having a spending ban on clothes in July but as I bought a pair of shoes from Barnardos today I will be taking part again next month! :0)

If you fancy taking part please let me know and I'll pass your details to Sarah xxx

Artful readers club

The Artful Readers Club #6

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Hello Lovelies,

Time for the 6th instalment of the artful readers club.

I had a tough choice this month as I read a book I planned to use for this month, then the day after I read another book which I decided I wanted to review more. I have noticed I have massively deviated from my original list. Next month I will read something from it!

The book I've chosen to Read is Vivien's Heavenly Ice Cream Shop by Abby Clements (Twitter: @AbbyCBook)

The book follows the tale of two sisters, Annawho has just bought a new property, stable job steady relationship and Imogen who is travelling, hasn't been able to get a "proper" job since uni.

When there gran passes away the inherit her run down Ice cream shop and decide to spend the summer restoring it to its former glory, before deciding what to do with it.

Anna goes to Italy to learn how to make the perfect Ice cream and Imogen gets herself into some mischief while she's away.

The story follows their family problems, disasters in love and the problems of someone determined to make them fail.

They use old photo's get the ice cream shop back to how it was in it's heyday and find love where some of them least expect it.

This really is a lovely read, I read it in an afternoon on my sunlounger at the caravan. As I write this it's pouring it down and it really is miserable. This book is perfect for sunny days and when your in need of a good chick lit read.

You might also be shocked to read I have done some Art!

I have also done last months and the month befores as well!

I haven't taken pictures as I write but I will.

Till Next month!

I'm not happy with this, it toally didn't turn out as I wanted it to. I have since had an idea so I might re-do it!!!

Christening Sweet Buffet and cake

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Hey Lovelies,

Last week I showed you what I wore for the Christening last Sunday. I mentioned the cake but I didn't show you any photo's.

Sweet Buffet - my friend the Auntie of the birthday / christening girl owns a sweet shop The Choc Box in my village and she did the most amazing buffet. This is a picture the night before when we set everything up.  The Pompoms are amazing and she make them herself.

The sign is so cute and look at all the yummy sweets. I love the Ribbon Tree which was made by another friend

All the kitKats had personalised wrappers. I didn't get a shot of the party bags but they had sweets, drinks and other goodies. I kinda wanted one myself.

The cake, where do I begin with the cake. It is amazing! This was made my a local bakery. The Hazelnut Bakery in Delph.

It had rainbow sponge inside in Pink, Yellow and Green.

I had a fab time and enjoyed my two bags of sweets

The dog and partridge

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Hello Lovelies,

This is a bit belated but I wanted to share the meal out I had with my friends, this was before I joined WW.

We went to The Dog and Partridge which isn't far from where I live.

They have recently moved a restaurant upstairs. We've been meaning to go for a while as I've loved the two other restaurants they've had.

I was starving when I arrived as i'd gone straight from work.

Starter - Home made Pate and a mini loaf. I really enjoyed this. They could have done with removing the fat to make it more appealing. It tasted amazing.

They have a wide and varied menu including pub classics for £5 each. These all sounded amazing. Sadly you can only have them in the bar which we didn't know before.

I went for a beef burger and added cheese and mushrooms.

I can't remember how much the starter was but the burger was about £5.50 and it was well worth it.

This isn't a sponsored post I just wanted to perv on this food again

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Hello Lovelies,

It's time for the next #OMCZ challenge. Can you believe we are on to the 9th one!

This weeks theme was chosen by Leah - I've already seen her post as I'm a day late and please go and check it out it is amazeballs!

Date Due:  Wednesday, 19th June
Time Due prior to noon your time.
Challenge: TV or Movie
In my head I was thinking Cartoon but I kept going back to movies I love and I am a bit of a 80s / 90s movie kinda girl. Think John Hughes, Christen Slater, Brendan Frazer, Pauly Shore

I am also a bit obsessed with the TV show Hart of Dixie but some how I couldn't unleash my inner Zoe Hart or Lemon Breeland.

One of my all time favourite films is Pump up The Volume.

"All I want to do is graduate from high school, go to Europe, marry Christian Slater, and die."

With that in mind I tried to unleash my inner Nora

I don't have any stripy leggins so went with my teal ones from Sainsburys.

My black dress also from sainsburys

I should have worn a long chain as well but I totally forgot.

Now where is Christen Slater we have a radio show to produce!

Mark Hunter: In real life I could be that anonymous nerd sitting across from you in chem lab, staring at you so hard. Then when you turn around he tries to smile, but the smile just comes out all wrong. You just think, How pathetic. Then he just looks away, and never looks back at you again.

How did I do?

Christening Wear and a Review

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Hello Lovelies,

Last weekend I went to a Christening and the few days before I was in a bit of a pickle about what to wear.

The weather was looking iffy (what a change) and It's been a long time since I've been to a Christening.

There is a fine line between looking like you are very formal and being too casual.

On Friday of last week the lovely Curvissa sent me an Ethnic Print Dress to review, the dress is lovely but I thought it was too short to wear on its own or with tights. I've grown so used to wearing leggings with everything and I thought they were too casual.

My main concern would be that it would ride up when I was sat down but after a number of sitting down test it didn't ride up it stayed knee length when I was sat down, which was a lot!

I added a thin brown belt which I found on my mums dressing table and some chunky beads which I think are from Primark a million years ago

Ethnic Print Dress £42

I love this dress and Think at £42 it is a really good price. It's nice jersey material and so comfy.

I ordered the size 20 and after initially thinking it was far too small I think it is just a tad too small. Normally I'd have gone for a 22 but I think it was wishful thinking on my part and I'd say this dress is true to size.

The christening was fab, as you know i'm not the biggest fan of children and as it was a combined christening / 6th Birthday I expected to be in Hell. I wasn't they had an entertainer who was amazing. I want to book him for my next birthday. Amazing Buffet and an even more amazing cake.

The cake may get a post of it's own!

Free Ticket

Northern Home Show

Monday, June 17, 2013

Hello Lovelies,

I was lucky enough to get a free ticket to the Northern Home Show via Laura from Blogs up North Thank you Laura.

It was on Friday to Sunday this weekend and while I don't have my own house I do love all aspects of home improvement and I am soon to re-do my room so I was looking for inspiration and ideas.

The event was at Event City next to the Trafford Centre. The Trafford Centre is somewhere I tend to avoid. I've been once in the past 10 years with the exception of this weekend.

It's also a bit of a faff for me to get to but I'm really glad I made the effort to go.

I walked right in as I'd printed off my ticket and was immediately overwhelmed by the size of the venue. I wandered round and there were a wide variety of stands from windows, bathrooms, alarms, fireplaces, furniture and interiors. I'm sure i've missed a lot of areas.

I wanted to share a few of my favourites. The photo's were taken with my phone as I saw a sign saying no social media or photo's and I saw no one with a camera but as i'm a very visual person I wanted to take some (Sneaky)

Rustic Furniture:
I'm not sure i'd ever have something like this myself but it's very interesting.
One Item of theirs I would love (oh to have the room) would be this table with built in Ice Buckets Oh wow! I need this. Sadly we only have a small back garden and it is made up of a number of steps so even a mini version of this wouldn't work but oh to dream.

I didn't spend much time at this stand but as I overheard one of the people on the stand say one of the models cost £4K! apart from my irrational fear of loo's that don't go all the way to the floor what other than a flush does this do?! if it irons and tidies up please can I have one?!

I love these chairs, nice simple and pretty

The other stands included an all female decorating service. The lady of the stand gave me a leaflet which I have sadly mislayed but she gave me a brief history and said they also offer a room clearance service where they will come in a box up a room, decorate and then come in put things back and clean up which sounds fantastic. They also had some bits and bobs for sale. I love the cushion.

The next stand and possibly my favourite was home sense. This is TK Maxx's home arm and their stand was so warm and welcoming, I wanted pretty much everything on the stand and while my room is tiny and i'm thinking of fitted cupboards and pale colours I really want a shabby chic look.
I entered a raffle which meant visiting the store in the trafford centre to see if i'd won anything. I'd planned to go over anyway, sadly I didn't win anything but while I was there a couple won a £10 voucher and a note book.

I feel in love with this elephant. He's too cute.

There were also ask the architect, talks my professionals and other areas.

MultiYork were also there and I want everything.

Especially this clock

All I need now is to win the lottery and buy a house and spend my life looking at soft furnishings.

I'm not sure I'm any closer to knowing what I want for my bedroom. Give me a house and I could decorate it twice over.

Did you go? Do you like homeware as much as I do?

Saturday, June 15, 2013

Hey Lovelies,

Can you believe it's half way through the month again and time for another Fatshionologie post.

Fatshionologie is a blogger style challenge born out of a discussion on twitter in the hopes that it would help us create exciting new content for our blogs as well as show that each new style 'theme' can be be rocked by a variety of different body shapes!

This months theme is Polka Dots.

This is my challenge, as I write this I am wearing Polka Dots, I've worn them twice this week and it's only Tuesday (I'm a scheduler)

Yesterday I came home from Skipton and it was dull so had jeans and a top on. By tea time it was glorious sunshine and we were off to a local Wetherspoons to celebrate La Papa's Birthday.

I wore my Black skirt from H&M and a recently purchased dotty top from primark which was a whole £3 (full price)

I was also a bit lazy and left my flip flops on!

Clothes swapping

Clothes Swap #5 - Part 1

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Hello Lovelies,

As you will know I went to the 5th (My 3rd) Clothes swap in Leeds last Saturday. It was a beautiful day and was lovely to see so many of the people I chat to on twitter as well as the people I now count as friends and meet up with slightly more often (but not often enough)

I didn't take my photo's but Just want to share the ones I did take here.

Once I've got all my clothes washed I will do another post on all the amazing things I got.

My aim was to take a caseful and bring back half a caseful and I did just that.

I had such a lovely afternoon, I always feel very socially awkward and I think I can come across as being a bit off / rude or even snappish but it's my anxiety building a wall, so apologies if i came across anyone one of these things to you.

Saying that I feel more at ease with those guys at the swap that I do with my own friends some times and I really don't feel like I had my conversations.

I'm so rubbish at knowing what to say and as I have no real life other than work. No OH / No hobbies (except shopping) and no conversation other than boring banal chatter that makes no sense or has no point (I fear Leah was a victim of my chatter mouth)

I love everyone of you and I will one day learn to make conversion!
