Suits You #5 - Nikki

Friday, October 31, 2014

The next edition of Suits You and I really feel like the seasons have changed. I don't know if it's because the clocks have changed but everything feels different since I came back from holiday.

For this Suits You challenge I'm styling Nikki. I've met Nikki before at Plus North 2013 in Manchester and I read her blog and chat to her on Twitter a lot.
Picture from Nikki's blog

Saying this I'm not totally sure I've got this one right. I really wanted to go for a purple tones but thieving I saw that I loved was Ox Blood.

I've also stuck to one shop so everything is from Yours Clothing. I think they have a great choice and  lot of things are affordable and they have some amazing sales.

They have also opened a lot of high street stores. I love the one in my local town centre and I pop in most weekends.

October 2014 Empties

Thursday, October 30, 2014

It was only when I had to move my empties from the clear bag I usually keep everything in to one of my clear shoe boxes, that I realised just how much I had.

I also think there were other things that I haven't saved. Just look at these two pictures! I started saving things as soon as I did my first empties post in August then for my September empties I just showed you what I'd used up on Holiday.

These are not going to be in any kind of order so please bear with me.

Berska Nail Wraps

I love the idea of nail wraps but I've never been able to use them totally successfully. My nails are also quite short and I think they work better with long nails. especially with a lot of them having detail all the way up the wrap.

These were really simple to apply, it really was as simple as peel and stick. I have three other sets and I'm trying go get my nails to grow a little bit so I can give them a good stab again.

Nivea Oil Free Moisturising Day Cream - Oily and Combination skin

I really love this moisturiser, this is the second one i've finished and I have a third on the  go as well as another one in a for dry skin (Winter skin is not happy skin in my world) The only thing I'd say is I wish this had an SPF in it. The dry skin one does and if I hadn't noticed I don't think I would have minded.

I originally got this as a stopgap when I ran out my Clinique, but I don't think I'll be going back any time soon.

It's also almost always on offer somewhere. I don't think I've ever paid more ant £2 a tube and it's RRP is £4.99

Halo - Eye Makeup Remover Pads

These were a bit meh for me, they did the job but there isn't really anything special about them. I also found that they dried up really quickly as the resealable tab isn't very sticky.

I think I got these in a goodie bag but my mum buys them quite often so I could have acquired them from her. For me they aren't something I would look to repurchase but I'd never say never as I think they are relatively inexpensive.

Hair dye

I have dyed my hair twice this month which is not like me as I usually go months between colouring.

A few months ago I accidently bought a dark blonde instead of a light brown and really liked it so I have gradually been going lighter.

My hair is a bit of a reverse ombré which isn't quite what I was going for but I do like my hair being lighter.

The two dyes I've used are Garier Olia and L'oreal ProDiGy Of the two I prefer the Prodigy mainly because it has no smell at all, nothing, nada, zilch. The Olia has a smell. It's a nice none hair dye smell but I liked having no smell. Small things.

They are both thirty minute colours and went on easily. They both also have wide necked bottles and you mix the colour and developer rather than having the developer already in the bottle. The old difference is the Prodigy comes with a spatula to mix the colour before closing it up and  I like the wide neck as you can open and scoop out the product when it won't come out of the lid anymore.

 Johnson's - Cotton buds

By far the best cotton buds for me. I've tried a lot over the years and the Johnson's ones are the softest and nicest to use. I go through one of these tubs every 4-6 weeks. I tend to buy them from the pound shop.

Body Shop - Almond Conditioning Hand Wash and Hand Cream.

I love this hand wash. I got it last January in a gift set with the handcream below and a nail oil pen and I think it was £16 instead of £20/22 I only went in for the hand cream but it seemed like too good a deal to miss, It's lasted a long time mainly because I went through phases with it and kept putting it away. None of the phases were that I didn't like it but it was that I didn't want to use it all up!

This has to be one of my favourite hand creams. I do think at £10 it's quite expensive but if you can get an offer it's worth thinking about getting. It soaks in well and smells amazing.

Superdrug Extracts - Uplifting Shampoo and Conditioner

I really liked this combination. I'm not sure it gave me any uplift but it smells lovely and makes me hair feel really clean.

I also feel like i've been able to go longer between washes (I usually have to wash it every day) I've been happy to wash it every other day and a couple of times 2 days with the aid of dry shampoo.

The main reason I bought this was because I was about to run out and I liked the smell (It was also really cheap)

I would repurchase this again but I'm not a loyal shampoo buyer and I have two other ones lined up ready to use now these are used up.

 Herbal Essences - Breakage Defender

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. It's not been that long since I told you I'd bought this from the pound shop (Pound World to be precise) Not only does it smell amazing it makes my hair feel like it's it really good condition.

I have already repurchased two more of these. I can't find it on boot's or superdrug websites so I'm not sure if it's been discontinued but I hope not.

I will be looking out for more of this as I really do recommend it.

Garnier - Ultimate Beauty Oil

I'm a bit on the fence about this one. I like how it made my skin feel. The top leaked a bit with each pump of the spray and the smell is lovely but a little bit too strong for me although it does smell really nice.

Batiste - Original

This seems to be better than I remember it being. I always say the original one makes my head itch and it does but no where near as much as it used to. My mum gave me this and she thinks it was in a beauty box. it doesn't seem to be as white powdery either. I do prefer the flavoured batistes. I still haven't got a favourite yet but there are a few new dry shampoo's out recently so I'm hoping to catch some of them on offers and see if I do find something that works better for me.

Lush - Candy Mountain Bubble Bar and Magic Wand Bubble Bar

My Love affair with Lush is back in full swing. I'm always wary as i've had bad reactions in the past but these smelt too nice to leave behind.

I prefer candy Mountain out if the two but I liked the reusable  element of Magic Wand. I got 4 uses out of it but it could just as easily be 6. I was really worried it would fall off the stick but it didn't.

I could have got two uses out of Candy Mountain but I decided to be extravagant and use it all in one go.

I will be re-purchasing candy mountain I just need to go in buy that and not look at anything else!

Sure deodorant

I always go for a roll on or a cream deodorant. I also like to get the 48 hour ones. There is nothing amazing about this. I can't say if I will repurchase it or not as I just seem to grab and go and not remember what I've already used.

Beverly Hills Formula - Perfect White Black

This is another amazing product. I was sent this as a PR sample and I love it. I love it so much I've bought two more boxes. It makes my teeth feel so clean.

It is jet black paste with very fine micro particles to do the whitening effect, as i've said a few times my teeth are dodgy so I don't think I'll see any whitening but the feeling of clean is fantastic.

Zoella Beauty - Fizz Bar

I've really got into having baths since I've got back from Holiday. I went a little crazy with the bath products.

I really like these bath cubes. It says to use one or two cubes per bath. The fizz under the hot tap and then the water stays clear, I do prefer bubbles but my skin feels nice and I've not had the dreaded itch of some bath products.

I don't think I'd repurchase it just for myself but I'd would buy it as a treat or as a gift for someone.

Essence - Kiss Care Love Lipbalm

Have you ever used up a lip balm? I hadn't until this one. It has a very soft texture and does run down quickly but it's really cheap price wise, it is a really lovely. I did get this one as a PR sample but I have repurchased a replacement but in a different flavour as much as this one. It reminds me of fruit salad sweets.

I think next time I go to the Essence concession i'll be picking up another one.

Superdrug - Dead sea purifying clay mask

This is amazing. I've been looking at different clay masks for a while with the intention of buying a tube of it but can't find the perfect one. This is it. it dried well and I have bought three more! they are on three for two at the moment.

I think you could possibly get two applications from one sachet but I used more or less the full one. It's in a bin bag as it was a bit messy

None Empties

Each month I'm going to try and have a little bit of a clear out, get rid of things that I know don't suit me or that I will never use. I think I did it in the August Empties post and this month is no different.

I have two for this month and I should have more but I'm a hoarder and can't bare to part with things.

Rimmel Stay Matte

This has so much potential but just doesn't suit me. It's the wrong colour, It almost leaves a grey sheen on my skin. I did use it quite a bit when I got it but for the last 9 months it's been sat on my shelf being ignored.

So after trying it again twice this month I've decided to get rid. I've had it about 13 months so if we follow the rules and look at the back it has a 12 months shelf life (does anyone actually follow those guides?)

Essence - Kajal Pencil

I thought this was a lipliner, but it seems to be an eye pencil?!!?! I've tried to use it as a lip pencil and it doesn't transfer on to my skin so it's time to go.

And Finally

Next Door's cat

Ok so this isn't an empty but I had to include him as to take these pictures I'd trapped my scarf between the windows in the dining room and when I took it down he was looking up and he seems to shake his head and roll his eyes as if to say what the heck are you doing!

He does not approve of my blogging methods!

Glossy Box - Pop Art Box

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

I've gone and taken out another beauty box subscription out and this time it's Glossy Box. I've seen a few reviews and to be honest the pop art box swung it for me.

I've paid for a 3 month subscription and I'm not sure if I'll carry it on but so far I like what i've been sent.

I haven't really tried anything in this box yet but I wanted to share what I got in my first box.

Nuxe - Masque Creme Fraiche

This looks really interesting, my skin is really dehydrated but quite greasy so I'm looking forward to trying this and see if it helps my skin.

Natural World - Argan Oil

I've used argan oil on my hair before and I don't think it really did much but I did use it on dry skin and it really helped so I'm going to give it try on my hair and my elbows

Etre Belle - Liplift peel

This looks really interesting, I've used lip scrubs before but never carry on with them. I think it's great as a winter product when the cold weather can dry lips. I have tried this and it's very fine scrub. I haven't read much about this yet but from what I have seen is it helps to redefine the lips.

MeMeMe - Eye Inspire Classic Trio Collection

This is such a pretty colour combination, they are not colours I would normally buy but I will give these a go.

So Susan - Mascara

Again I haven't tried it and it will be really interesting as the wand is very small. I usually like a chunky wand.

Rimmel - BB Cream

If anything this is my my only disappointing product as it's in the shade light, I haven't swatched it yet so i'll reserve judgement but I know a few people who would suit a light shade so I can pass it on.

As the first box I'm really pleased with this box. I think I will use everything I've received except the BB cream sample depending on the swatch.

Do you subscribe to any beauty boxes? What do you think of that I got?

Autumn Tag

Falling For Fall (Let's call it Autumn)

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

Autumn is my second favourite time of year. I'm a spring baby and that is my favourite season but this year I'm, really happy for Autumn.

I have a few things on this Autumn and i'm really happy to get all Autumnal and when I spotted an Autumn Tag on YouTube I decided to do it on my Blog.

1. What are you most looking forward to this fall?
Apart from falling leaves, comfy jumpers and cosy nights with the heating on. I'm looking forward to going to York on a Hen do over Halloween weekend. Then the wedding which I'm not 100% sure when that is.

2. What has been your favorite Halloween costume so far?

I think this years is going to be the best if I can pull it off. We don't really do Halloween in my circle of friends. I've dressed as a devil which consisted of a black dress, devil horns and a red cape. One year I dressed as a witch which I think consisted of a broom and a borrowed wizzards hat!

This year I'm going as a zombie 50's prom queen. Not sure how dressed up everyone else will be but i've got a prom dress, petticoat, a shah, fake blood, liquid latex and some other misc halloween items.

3. Nude or dark lips?

Dark, but i'm quite afraid of lipstick, I always make a mess. I've got a fab Makeup Revolution colour which I got to wear on Halloween but I like it for general wear so that is my colour of autumn.

4. Do you call the season Autumn or Fall?

Autumn. The only time I ever say fall is when trying to remember which way the clocks go.

Spring forward, Fall back.

5. What is the weather like during Fall where you live?

Cold and wet usually but occasionally you get those milder sunny days that are perfect for trekking through those fallen leaves.

6. Favorite Fall fashion trend?

Even though I class myself as a bit of a fashion blogger I don't really follow the trends too much. I love tartan and all the berry colours that are around at the moment.

7. Favorite Fall activity?

I always go on holiday in Autumn. Once the schools have gone back I go away usually with my mum but this year I went with my friend. So that has to be my favourite activity.

8. Most worn shoes?
My boots from Primark. They won't last very long but they are comfy and I hate to say practical!

9. Pumpkin spice latte or salted caramel mocha?

Neither, I'd much rather have a Hot Spiced Apple drink from Costa

10. What are you planning to do/what did you do for Halloween?

Oh maybe I should have read all the questions first. I have already cover this. Zombie Prom queen :)

11. You're cuddled up at home, are you reading a book, or watching a movie?

I'll probably be watching TV or YouTube video's

12. What are you thankful for?

Having a nice family, blogging and the people i've met through it and events i've gone to. My friends. I have lots to be thankful for.

OOTD - Getting Shirty with you

Monday, October 27, 2014

Before I went on holiday in September I saw this amazing shirt in Tesco and talked myself out of buying it about three times. I did manage to walk away with out it.

When I came home from holiday we had a little side trip to tesco and it had been reduced to £10

It was clearly meant to be. I really struggle to wear collars. I never think they sit right on me.

I do love love it. I did size up to a 26, the 24 fitted fine but I always struggle with buttoned items. They always gape, I also wanted it to be a little bit longer to wear with leggins

I've lost the picture of the back of it it's pretty much the same as the front but I wanted to show it to you.

I've had a few bargains from the Tesco sale in the past couple of weeks. I will try and get some pictures together and show them to you]

New Shoes and a Giveaway from JD WIlliams

Sunday, October 26, 2014

JD Williams have a huge shoe range and when they contacted me recently about their shoe collection I was like a kid in a candy shop, so many shoes.

Page after page of shoes, they really do have something for everyone, from grannies (not my granny who wear's nothing less than a 3 inch heel) to something my gran would wear, on trend boots and shoes perfect for a job interview.

I've picked out a few of my favourites. It was like an episode of the X Factor. I drew up a short list and these are the ones that have made it to Boot Camp (Sorry I saw it coming a mile off and couldn't stop!)

Ankle boots are a must for winter. I've spotted this pair and they come in three colours. Black which have a patent panel at the back. Black with animal print back and then my favourite are the Ox Blood version.
Sole Diva Low Ankle Boot £45.00
I really can't get enough of boots for winter, I really love the look of these tan boots, the will look great with jeans.
was £60.00

As well as boots I always like to have a selection of flats and I'm really drawn to these black and leopard print shoes. I really like the gold zip type detail.
Save £10.00
was £25.00
More colours available

My final pick are with Christmas party season looming on the horizon.

They come in 4 colours and I think they would be great over the festive season.
More colours available

The Majority of shoes I looked at have various fittings which is always a bonus for me. I really struggle with shoes. My feet are wide and in between a 6.5 and a 7. There is a shoe fitting guide on the website to help you know which size and fit would be best for you.

JD Williams kindly provided me a pair as a gift and the shoes I went for are patient flats with a pointed toe.  I've seen quite a few pointed toe shoes on the high street recently and I thought they'd be perfect for the nights out on my weekend away in York.

I went for the 7 E when I first tried them I thought could possibly have done with an EE but I think this is because they go to a point but I've now adjusted the strap across the foot and they feel a lot better.

I'm planning on wearing these as part of my halloween costume then they will become part of my work wardrobe.

I'll try and remember to add in some pictures of me wearing them, when I went to take the photo's I'd already but my PJ's on (Yes 3pm on a Sunday!)

My First You Beauty Discovery Box - October 2014

Saturday, October 25, 2014

I've been thinking about subscribing to a beauty box for a while. I keep looking at different reviews but couldn't commit myself.

I keep buying one off boxes but after seeing a few reviews on the You Beauty Discovery Box I decided to sign up.

One of the biggest plus point for me is that you get to choose two items each month then get some surprise bonus items. It also sounds like you get a variation from month to month. Some times you will get more and other less.

When the box arrived the first thing I noticed was the size, this box is tiny. from the reviews i'd seen I assumed it would be the same size as other beauty boxes.

As well as the two Item's I'd selected there were two other items. A sample of Cowshed serum and a bottle Gold Collegen drink for 40+. I'd picked a C&E nail polish and Illamasque lipstick.

I'll start with the bonus items

Cowshed - Anti-aging Perfecting Night Serum

I'm never a fan of sachet samples. You rarely get more than one use out of them or they get put to one side never to be used again.

I have actually used this and I didn't like it. For me it was more like a facial oil, which doesn't suit my skin type. It smelt quite nice and has a slight lavender fragrance which was lovely for night time. My skin felt very greasy the next morning.

I'm not sure what size sample this was but the full sized item is £48.00/ 30ml

Forte - Gold Collagen 40+

This is a drink which contains collagen. It says in the leaflet you should take this as a course and it works from the inside. This one is recommended for the over 40's and I don't even think it will get opened. It's not for me.

It's also £40 for a ten day course of the drink. So this would be approx £4.00

Crabtree & Evelyn Nail Polish

I was excited to see I'd got the red C&E nail polish. This was one of the items I'd picked but it did say it came in a variety of colours and I already have the pale pink so It was nice not to get the same colour.

I haven't used this yet but I'm hoping to find some time to paint my nails at the weekend.

RRP £6.00/15ml

Illamasque - Glamoure Lipstick

I got a Glamoure lipstick in another beauty box and it was a fab colour, so I had high hopes of getting a nice colour.

I was so gutted when I received tease. The picture of it below makes it look an okay colour but it's almost like a concealer colour.

It totally knocks any colour from my face and looks almost luminous on me!!
I'm not one for swatches as a rule but wanted to show it you, I can't bring myself to post the ones I took of it on my lips!

At £18.50 for the full price item. I thought it might look ok on someone with fair skin but I spotted some comments on you tube with a wide range of people saying they'd got this colour and no matter what complexion they had they said it didn't suit them.

If you think you'd like this one please feel free to contact me and we can arrange something. Again I have tried it on my lips and my hand.

This box costs £6.95 a month including P&P and I did feel a bit disappointed but I did choose two of the items and my desire for a high end lipstick got the better of me.

If I had my time again i would have gone for the wild about beauty power eyeshadow but you live and learn.

Looking at value for money this is pretty good value but if you look at what I will actually use and depending on how much the cowshed sample works out at it just about covers the cost of the box.

Onwards to next month. Did you get this box? What items did you choose? What did you think of the bonus Items?
