Book Review - Hiraeth A Mark - Marc - Liz Riley Jones

I want to start by saying I did receive this book to review. All opinions are my own.

1) About the book

Mona has has been on the run all her life whether she knows it or not. When her parents die she moves in wither uncle.

When her uncle also dies his will specifies she has to trace her family history in a village in Wales. The terms specify she has to spend at least a month their to claim her inheritance.

When a series of dramatic events unfold Mona is branded the mark by the community and suspensions are cast to find out is she with them or against them.

Find out her roots, learning who she is in the present and leaving us on a cliff hanger the book covers. Love, Life, Wales, Druids, legends and much more.

2) What did you like about the book?

I liked that the book was set in the present day. When I read the blurb I assumed it was set in the distant past. The book opens in 2007 and quickly moves to around 2012.

I liked the use of Welsh language through out the book. In a week when I saw stories in the paper. Is the Welsh language dead I felt a little bit of hope that it had been kept alive in this book.

There is a great level of details to the book including pronunciations of names and places as well as maps. For me this was helpful to picture where they were and while I still of no hope of pronouncing some of the names and places I think I'm at least half way there.

The book is an enjoyable to read and did take me a few days to get into but once I was in I was hooked.

The people in the books felt believable while still having elements you wouldn't see in real life (well maybe but not in the circles I run in)

The book has a wide range of people in  the community and it feels like a lot of though has gone into the personality  of each one.

3) What did you dislike about the book?

I disliked some of the sexual language, in some parts I felt they were a bit unnecessary and while the scenes were needed I think they could have been conveyed in different ways to get the same or better effects.

4) Round up
While I found it difficult to get into the book and there were elements I didn't totally enjoy the over all story and the journey really drew me in and I enjoyed the journey.
I laughed and while I didn't cry I did feel emotionality involved in the story and when I turned the last page I needed to read more.

Luckily it's a trilogy, sadly the second book hasn't been published yet.

5) Marks out of 5
Maybe this should be a 4.5 - 5 with books its, not always the beginning or middle that created the score but the end. It left me needing to read more.

Have you read this book what did you think?
