50 Books in 2015 - Books 12 -15

I haven't done what I normally do with this post which is type up some notes about each book as I finish it. I'm trying to keep this in the same style as the other posts but please bare with me.

Book 12 My Single Friend Jane Costello

This book looks a bit sorry for itself as it's been dropped in the bath countless times by myself and my mum. I know that will horrify a lot of people but I think it gives it character.

This was a really fun read, a bit predictable but good fun. PR girl from Liverpool fighting her way through the single life, she gets in to a number of work related scrapes and when her flat makes starts dating her friend and they decide to go travelling, she realises who it is she loves.

A little bit of sex and the city with a scouse accent, which is no bad thing.

Book 13 The Glass Painters Daughter Rachel Hore

I really enjoy this book, I've read a few of Rachel Hore books and this is one of my favourites.

I did a mini review of it which you can read here

Book 14 The Jewel Box Anna Davis

I enjoyed this book a lot, but I don't think it's any great works of literature. It's a chick lit book set in the 1920s.

I did a mini review of it last week you can read it here

Book 15 America Unchained Dave Gorman

I adore Dave Gorman, I watch him on TV, I've even got a signed copy of his Googlewhack book or is it Meet Dave Gorman. One of them (don't sound  much like a fan do I!)

I picked this up in a Charity shop for 50p (Sorry Dave no money for you, but yay for charity)

It's pretty old now and follows his journey to go coast to cost in America only using independent Mom and Pop stores, Chain-free hotels and not giving The Man any of his dollars.

There was also a TV show and the book is a companion to that but it's fine to read in it's own.

I've not quite finished it, but only have a couple of chapters left so wanted to include it in this post.

I can here him speak as I read the book. A number of things happen in his journey. His producer / camera woman has a bad back and they take a number of detours in the wrong direction. In this they stay in a treehouse where everything is "tree-mendous", they also stay in a hotel shaped like a beagle as well as some less desirable establishments.

When the camera woman's back can't take anymore he's forced to sit and wait for further instructions and if you want to know more you'll have to read it or watch it. I've got a copy of the DVD in my amazon basket as I really want to see it again.

  1. I've read America Unchained I really enjoyed it! I think it is a bit similar in tone to Danny Wallace books (then they did collaborate on I am Dave Gorman together) At the moment I am reading a Sarah Waters book The Night Watch in am about 100 or so pages in, it's alright but not a book I am devouring and loving.

  2. I've never been able to get into Danny Wallace's books but have read a few of Dave Gormans and have enjoyed them.

I need to decide what to read as book 16 x
