Cinema Visit - The Odeon & Bridget Jones' Baby

Sunday, October 30, 2016

I'm posting this more as a memory than a review or anything else but I thought this was a good a place as any to save my memory.

I can't remember the last time I went to the cinema, I keep saying it was the very last Twilight movie but I might have been since then so don't quote me.

The town I live in lost it's only cinema back in 2005 when the local Roxy Closed and demolished a couple of years later. With plans to convert the old derelict town hall in to a cinema.

Eleven years later the Odeon opens it's doors in the old town hall to reveal a 7 screen cinema and I was looking forward to going. I booked for me and my mum to watch Bridget Jones Baby.

Many moons ago I had a cineworld card back when it was £10 a month for unlimited movies and made the trek to another town and I'm itching to sign up to the Limitless card Odeon offer. £17.99 for unlimited films. I'm going to hold off for this at the moment but I have signed up to Meerkat Movies which I'm hoping to try and use each week. In a couple of month I'm going to work out how much I'm spending the maybe sign up. So far I've also paid for my mums tickets so it might even be worth me paying for both of us to have an limitless card.  (Just thinking outloud)

Apologies for the photo's. A mix of phone photo's, night photography.

As mentioned the cinema is in the old town hall which has been renovated and is stunning. The front of the building is a Costa Coffee which has been fitted out really lovely and the staff were all really nice and once I'd paid I realised I could have also collected Odeon Premier points so I've kept my receipts! (I do enjoy a loyalty bonus)

They have also added a glass extension and there will be restaurants on the outside but they are not quite ready (Next week hopefully)

We arrived an hour early and had a couple of drinks in the Costa, It was lovely sat in the corner watching people walking in.

Every person who walked in through the front door smiled as they walked in. They've kept a lot of the historical details but added enough elements to to make it modern, bright and a space you want to spend time in.

I'm in love with the neon signs they have denoting the shop and ticket office. Everything has been done really well and the staff we came across were all really friendly and helpful.

I should probably tell you about the film as well, I guess it's only right to mention it.

I think this Bridget Jones film is the best one, it really was a laugh a minute. I laughed so much that I cried.

As you've probably guess Our Bridget is pregnant and doesn't know who the daddy is. Some of my highlights with out spoilers is the guy from Starbucks. The revolving doors near the end. Every time Emma Thompson is on screen. All of it!

Arrecife Lanzarote - 3D Street Painting

Thursday, October 27, 2016

Whenever I go to Lanzarote we always visit Arrecife and I've always loved the street art and statues dotted around the capital.

When I was there last week I noticed someone who was doing some chalk art inside some barriers and I couldn't work out what it was all about, further down the street I spotted the below piece of art.

From up close it doesn't look like anything but when you stand on the designated point and take a photo you really get the 3D effect.

I was like a kid running from point to point trying to look at them all. I know I didn't see everything that was there and I'd have loved to have spent more time looking at them all but we were on our way to the shops (Priorities darling)

In front of each art work there was a designated place to stand and take a photo, different artists had used different ways making this, from foot prints through to camera symbols.

I think this one is my favourite, it's playful and really has that 3D effect for me. It's strange as when I was stood there, I only got a partial 3D effect but as soon as I looked back on my camera I could see it and I smile every time I see this picture.

I really love the colours and the way the photo point has been signed on this design.

As I got towards the last design I realised the artists had signed their work but didn't have the forthought to take pictures of the signatures so I could give them credit. I did a bit of googling and found some info on them which if you're interested can be found here.

I did clearly get one of the artist's name and I love how the paving stones really give this work depth, to me it looks like a 3D jigsaw puzzle.

We walked back past them on out way back to the bus station and the Yellow Barriers had been placed round the art work to protect them, I did wonder if the addition of the barriers helped the photos as it would have blocked out some of the background but I like how in some of my pictures you can see the sea.

They also picked the best week for this exhibition as while we did get a little bit of rain, this week they are having storms and schools are closed, there is chaos at the airport (Thanks Lanzarote Info for the FB Updates) and I believe at least one river that is usually dried up is flowing.

I feel quite privileged to have seen these works and it really did put a smile on my face.

The Collab Girlies - A Full Face For Under £20

Sunday, October 23, 2016

I'm starting a new Collab series on my YouTube Channel starting from today.

I don't know if we will be calling it The Collab Girlies but that is the name of the chat we have about it and I kinda like it.

Our first Collaboration was to create a full face of makeup for under £20. I assumed this would be easy and initially I planned to nip to Superdrug and buy all new but then I realised I own a tonne of make up and it would be silly to buy all new.

You could easily create a full face for under £20 but did initially struggle as I couldn't remember how much I'd paid for thing, some of the items I had as PR samples from events or prices have changed since I got them. I also missed out some bit of makeup I'd normally use as I didn't have a good value price. I did have a couple of things I had free from magazines or from beauty boxes but it seemed like a cheat.

I did wear this look for a Christening I went to on the day I filmed the video and I didn't add anything extra so I feel this worked out well and came in at around £19

Foundation - NXY Matt not flat £6.00 I do like this foundation but I find that as I put it on I get flakes out foundation but I can't work out if it's the foundation or sponge or what. I don't think I'd but it again but as an everyday foundation for work its not bad.

Powder - Essence powder - PR Sample but most powders are around £2. I don't think this is available any more but it's a nice powder and I've always liked essence powders.

Khol Me Beautiful Eye Pencil £1.00 Poundland -  A really great khol pencil. I'm really impressed with pencil and I prefer it to some more expensive eye pencils I've had before

Eyeshadow Make up Revolution Base! & Insomnia £1.00 each. Both of these are very shimmery but looked lovely on together and blended well.

Lipstick Essesnce Colour£2.29 each - In the video I said I thought these were £1.00 each but I think I was confusing them with the make up revoloution lipsticks. I did have this as a PR sample from an event but I googled the price. I thought this lipstick was a good colour to start transitioning into more autumnal colours without going very dark for daytime.

Rimmel Lash Tint Mascara £5.99 (RRP £7.99) - I bought this at an introductory price when it first came out and I do like it. It doesn't tint my lashes but works well as a day time mascara. I do think I need 2 coats to get decent coverage but I would but it again. I've working on not keeping a huge number of mascara's as at one point I had around 15! Not all open, I've got it down to around 6 but the others are clinique and NYX and I think this was the cheapest one I have. One of my favourite cheap mascara's is from Primark and I keep meaning to buy another one but my aim to keep my numbers low has stopped me.

You will need to excuse how tired I look but I am really pleased with the look, even though I would normally wear more make up and attempt to tame my brows I was happy to go out wearing this make up.

Don't forget to watch my YouTube video and check out everyone else who is taking part. Links are in the YouTube Down bar

What's on my Kindle - Holiday Reads

Thursday, October 20, 2016

When I bought my Kindle I was hoping to use it a lot more than I do. I can't get away from the love of paper books. I keep buying them and a find them easier to read.

The Kindle has many benefits in that it's much lighter and easier to carry round than the paperbacks I read. It also means I have no excuse not to finish a book, as if I haven't got enough pages left to read there and back from work I tend to give on book only to pick them up much later.

Another huge benefit of the Kindle is that I can have a good number of books and choose to read a different book each time without having to remember which book to take with me.

This also come in handy for holiday. I remember a few years ago stuffing 12 books in 2 cases and having to leave some clothes behind!

The current books are a real mix of genres and some I have read but my kindle won't connect to my home wifi (not sure why) so I can't remove them.

While I was looking for books on Holiday I signed up for Kindle unlimited which means you can borrow up to 10 books at a time for £7.99 a month (30 Free Trial First).

It seems to be £1.99 books are the ones you can borrow but as I'm happy to read almost anything this suits me.

I'm working my way through the Sweet Valley High series which are on the unlimited list.

Crossing Places by Elly Griffith was an interesting read and I bought the serialised Wildflower Bay by Racheal Lucas. I really enjoyed this but wish I'd waited and bought the full book.

The Hope That Kills by ED James was a free book for having Amazon Prime, it's a psychological thriller which sounds like it will be a little scary but I'm hoping it will be good.

I'm half way through A Song For Issy Bradley and being honest I'm not enjoying it. I'm finding it a hard read, the subject matter and I feel apprehensive as I read it. I'm not sure if that is the sign of a good book or not and I keep putting it down. It's set in North West England and centres around a Mormon family who have lost a child and it's the story of grief and how her family are coping. I'm not coping well with it. I'm determined to finish it but I'm not sure I'm tough enough for it.

The other books are a mix of cheap 99p books and free amazon / kindle unlimited books.

I'm always on the look out for new books to read so let me know some of your recommendations

Sports Cam HD

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

I was looking for a Sports type camera to try and inject a bit of fun and life into my holiday vlog and I couldn't justify buying a Go Pro. When I asked for recommendations. Emma from The Cheshire Wife offered me this camera as a gift.

I'm really looking forward to trying it out and I'm hoping to try it to film a lush bath bomb before I go away so if that works I'll insert a clip here but no doubt I'll forget.

Inside the box you get a massive amount of accessories. I'm not sure I will use them all and I'm planning on only taking the minimum on holiday but I've listed before what you get from a listing on Amazon:

1x Sport Camera
1xWaterproof Case
1xBase 1xProtective Door(notwaterproof)
1xBack Clamp
1xAdhesive Mount
1xBicycle Stand
3xSwitch Support
1xFixed Base
2x3M Adhesive Tape
1xWire Rope
1xData Wire
1xCleaning Cloth
1xUser Manual

The camera it's self is small and fairly light. The waterproof casing does add to the dimensions but it doesn't feel excessive and if it keeps the camera safe I can't complain.

the case itself was tricky to open as it has a Z - locking mechanism but I watched a couple of YouTube videos and it's one of this when you know, you know type moments.

The camera takes a micro SD card that isn't included but I have a number of micro SD cards that that wasn't an issue and they are readily available and I recently found 16GB ones in Asda for £5 each. Glad I stocked up (I bought 2, does that count as stocking up?)

The charger is a Micro USB which is the same as most Android and Kindles and a charging cable is provided.

I have tested it out in the bath with a Lush bath bomb. The lighting is terrible as it was dark outside but at least I know the case doesn't leak and I'm quite impressed.

I'm excited to try it on Holiday. As I type I have read the instructions. I've just plugged in a memory card and pressed record. I also don't know how to get the time and date off but I guess I need to get reading.

The only thing I've noticed is the battery doesn't seem to last long, I'm not sure if I've accidentally left it switched on but I'm happy with the couple of test films I've recorded so far.

Weekend Away Makeup - #BlogOnMSI

Sunday, October 16, 2016

A couple of weekends ago I went to #BlogOnMSI in Manchester and I decided to make a weekend of it and stay over. I thought I’d share the makeup I took with me.

I’m trying to not over pack when I go away for short breaks and even fortnight holidays. Even though I want everything with me I know I won’t use half the products I take with me so I feel like I’ve choosen wisley this time.
This make up was to cover a Saturday night out and the event on Sunday.

Eye Makeup

Kohl Me Beautiful – Brown eyeliner – I picked this up in Pound land a while ago and it’s a really nice eyeliner for soft smoky eyes and I prefer it to some dearer brown lines that I’ve tried.
Kat Von D – Tattoo Eyeliner – This is new to me and I haven’t tried it as I type but from swatching it, I like how thin a line I managed to achieve on the back of my hand
Essence long lasting Black Eye Pencil – I’ve not used this for a while, but I like how this looks on me.
Eyelure Mid Brown Eyebrow Gel – My brows are a little on the wild side and this helps to tame them, it also fills in the colour without the need for pencil as well
Maybelline Crème de rose colour tattoo -  when I bought this I intended to use it as a base under other eyeshadows but more often than not I went it on its own with liquid (felt tip) eyeliner.
Tanya Burr Hollywood Palette – The perfect Christmas party palette. It has 3 fairly neutral shades and one shimmery old gold shade. I’m really impressed with the quality of these shadows and as the event has a festive them I thought it was the time to use it.
Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara -  It claims to tint your lashes and while I don’t feel like it’s made any difference to my lashes, which admittedly are naturally dark. It’s a good day time mascara and is easy to build up without getting clumpy.

Face Products

Maybelline Eye Eraser concealer – Over the past 18 months I’ve used two or three of these and recently I’ve been missing it. I have managed to use up two of my other concealers so it’s time to reopen this and see if I still enjoy using it.
Botanics Radiance Balm – If I’m honest I’m not really sure how a radiance balm works or what it does, but this smells nice and I’m using it as a primer / base before foundation.
Nars Orgasm – I only crack this out for special occasions and I don’t know as it’s a really great blusher for me. I will have to start using it more often.
Nude Magique BB Powder -  I feel like I’m always really negative about this powder and never look forward to using it but yet I’m still using it. I don’t feel the need to use something else. I don’t know if this is because I’ve got my project pan hat on (I’m not panning this but I do feel more inclined to try and use up products) Or if it’s because I can see the shadow of pan slowly emerging. I don’t think I’d buy it again but it’s not awful (Glowing review there)
Nude Magique Cushion Foundation – Initially I didn’t like this but I’ve changed the way I apply it to using a dry beauty blender and a dabbing motion and I like it. I feel that it is a very wet formula and that I need to leave it to set for a few seconds before I apply any other products.
Milani Hermosa rose illuminating powder – The nude magique foundation is a little bit light so I like to use this to warm me up a bit.

Lip Products

Revlon Balm stain in Honey – I’m so close to finishing this product I’m keeping it with me at all times. Not using it that often but I’m sure in the next week or two it will be finished. This is a great colour and really easy to apply on the go.
Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple – Another product I’m trying to use up this year and it’s a really nice red, it goes on sheer but can be built up and I like wearing it for nights out.

Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle -  My current favourite lip colour. This is a good day time colour for me and I’ve been enjoying wearing it.

Book Review

Book Review - RSVP by Helen Warner

Thursday, October 13, 2016

I've hardly read any books in the past couple of months but one of the ones I really enjoyed was RSVP by Helen Warner.

It centres around a group on Uni Friends who have gone their own  way after uni and follows up after they go to a reunion. One of them is getting married but who will actually marry?

Anna hasn't been able to move on after she caught her uni love in bed with a "friend", Claire is successful in her career but is looking for more, Toby has settled and is getting married, Ella is a successful author but her marriage to an older man is strained. It has all the hallmarks of a classic chick lit tale and it is one but the journey each person goes on was interesting if not a little predictable.

The main focus is on Anna who is a primary teacher who is invited to her Ex's wedding but isn't quite over him, Claire who she still lives with goes as her plus one and the story follows them as they go to the hen do and wedding and what comes after.

In some ways there are too many characters fighting to be main stage but they are all needed to make round everything off. I would also like to see this book redone from the other three main female points of view and learn more about their back stories.

Over all it a good 3.5* book. It's not classic literature but it's good quick read and perfect for curling  up in a chair with a hot drink and the fire on and losing a couple of hours.

Blogging Friends and appreciation for them

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

Over the past few weeks I've had a few opportunities to spend time with friends I've met through blogging. Also known as my blogger friends. They differ from friends in real life in a number of ways.

The first noticeable is that I speak to them more frequently, in some cases I see them more often and I feel like they understand me more.

As much as I love my friends in real life very few of them understand the world of blogging and most of my interests are blogging or social media related and online friends get this.

They are there to send virtual kittens when you're sad, they do really lovely things like a whip round when someone is in need. They offer their time to help people move house and they help support each others social media platforms and I'm not talking about like for a like type thing but real genuine interactions. Often having conversations on different platforms at the same time on about different things.

I've just look back through the albums on my laptops and I've got some really lovey pictures of me and other bloggers but I don't have enough. I'm an observer and I have some lovely pictures of other people in pairs or groups but I'm not in them.

The bloggers in my circle of friends from the plus size community and the North West bloggers who have a wider split of blog types but our commonality is the North West of England and in theory we can meet up more often.

Looking back on these pictures makes me feel loved and I feel inspired by each and every one and it makes me want to take more selfies as I need to do another one of these posts with more pictures.

If you have any pictures with me in from recently events would you mine emailing them to me so I can update this post.

At the end of September when we were still on a high from BlogOnMSI we had a mini #BlogOff night which was 6 of us going out for tea and chatting. Putting the worlds to rights, catching up. Just being friends. I didn't get any pictures at this and I wasn't even going to blog about it but when speaking about Blogging friends, these kind of nights are important. It's not all about going to events to network. For me when you ask me how an event was I will tell you how much I enjoyed chatting to other bloggers. We had Wagamama's followed by cake and gin in Carluccio's and it was Aces!

Lush Manchester Arndale - The Halloween Range

Sunday, October 09, 2016

If I had to name a company that have great seasonal products Lush would probably be at the top of my list.

They change, develop as well as bringing back classics and it's always fun and exciting. I popped into the Lush store in Manchester Arndale. It's moved into a bigger unit across from it's previous location and the shop is so much easier to get around and the staff seem more relaxed and I didn't get pounced on which is my least favourite aspect of my usual Lush trips.

Lush Manchester Arndale - Halloween Gifts

I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of glitter. As much as I like sparkles, I'm not a fan at bath time. There is still some from your inner magpie to enjoy but enough of a mix to keep us all happy.

Lush Manchester Arndale - Halloween

I'm loving the product displayed and everything about the Manchester Arndale store seems fresh and dare I say funky (I'm too old to use that word)

I picked up three items, Boo A bubble bar and cute as a button, this is flavoured (scented?) with things I don't like including ginger but together it smells amazing and if I didn't know better i'd think it was food. I also grabbed The Autumn Leaves bath bomb which I bought on the strength of an instagram video making it look oh so pretty. It also smells so fresh.

Lush Manchester Arndale - Pumpkin

My final item was one of the Pumpkin bath bombs, I loved the scent and they are very cute with their little faces smiling back at me.

I'm excited for the weather to turn and it become bath season so I can try all of these out.

What are you favourite Lush Halloween products?

I need your help! What's in a name?

Thursday, October 06, 2016

What's in a name? - Should I re-brand?

I've been toying with re-branding for well over a year. I think part of the reason I fell out of love with blogging is that I'm bored of being seeing spots, I feel like I've out grown it. It has no meaning any more.

However I can't think of anything else I identify with. I have no fun or quirky names and I seem to lack imagination.

The obvious answer would be to change my blog name to my name but my name is long. 17 letters. I can barely spell it let alone type it successfully. I also don't like my name very much, there is also a lot of Steph's and Stephanie's in the blog o'sphere. Which seems odd as I only knew of two Stephanie's IRL  till I was about 25. One I was names after and another girl at my primary school.

How did you choose your blog name, what do you think my new one should be? Can I even face a name change?

I need a name change so it will be worth it but need to find something I love, that isn't taken and isn't too long.

I'm just not cool enough for this name thing really so any idea's are welcome. I think if and when I do change it will be at the end of December start of January 2017 so no real rush.

I wrote the above before I went to Blog On during the first session by Michelle from The Joy Chaser I my have come up with an idea for a new name but I need your help.

Its by no means perfect and I need you to leave me a comment with the first three things you think of when you think of me.

test blogging - new tech

Wednesday, October 05, 2016

A little while again I bought a ASUS Transformer book for blogging on the go.

I set it up and and I may have downloaded a virus to it right away! Way to go. I closed it and left it!

But now i'm off on holiday and want to take it with me. I want to Blog while I'm there and I maybe want to film and edit videos. What do I do?

I'm currently downloading anti virus software but now I'm feeling extra cautious thinking every link I click is going to be dodgy.

I really need someone else to be in charge of my tech purchases and set up.

The anti virus is almost installed so I'm going to let that run and hope I haven't wasted my money on this kit.

I also need to work out a way of editing on the go, I only know windows movie maker and no idea what I can use.

it doesn't help that I'm not used to it and I'm getting random pop ups but saying asus offering me cloud storgae and to download drop box, all things I use n my main laptop but these look a little different. Are they spam? Who knows.

Ok anti virus is running. i'm going to bed and not going to worry or dwell on it too much.
PS if anyone has any idea where my ipod might be can you let me know!

H&M Tassel Earrings

Tuesday, October 04, 2016

H&M Tassel Earrings

It's not that often I find myself feeling or being “On Trend”. I've recently been spotting people wearing earrings with tassels and I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

Twitter is an amazing resource for getting recommendations. Rather than google I turned to social media and almost immediately I was pointed in the direction of H&M.

There was a wide selection in store but most were a lot larger than I'd anticipated or were very heavy.

H&M Tassel Earrings

As tassels are very much outside my comfort zone I wanted something unobtrusive and quite delicate.

I spotted this pair of gold earrings and liked that they were on the small side compared to the other earrings on offer and gold is a neutral and will work well with a lot of outfits.

They were £5.99 and I'm hoping they will be comfortable to wear (i.e. I can keep them in for more than an hour)

H&M Tassel Earrings

I have spotted another pair in black which are a bit more elaborate and heavier but they look amazing on everyone I’ve noticed wearing them.

What I’m really hoping for is that Primark have some, cheap and cheerful ones and I can buy all the things!

Have you spotted any Tasselled earrings and what do you think of this trend?

Month in a Minute - September 2016

Sunday, October 02, 2016

I think these month in a minute posts are a great way to look back and reflect on the month. My life is fairly static, I don't feel like my life is any different no to 10 years ago.

Things must have changed but to be honest maybe not all that much as I type I'm watch The OC which was on between 2003 - 2007 so maybe life hasn't moved on so much.

September might have been my busiest month of the year so far. It's been an amazing month and I've had a lot of fun.

It started with me challenging myself to blog every day and I did. A couple of times I blogged 2 times in a day. I think I blogged more times in September than I have all year and I enjoyed it. I've also set up a blogging schedule and planed in some posts up to the end of the year, I have found my mojo after all.

By the time this goes live I will haven seen the Theatre version of Brassed off twice. We enjoyed it so much we booked tickets to see it again. I also bought it on DVD and it's still as amazing now as it was 20 years ago (see life hasn't moved on)

As mentioned before I've decided to rewatch The OC from series one. It's one of those show's I rewatch every few years and it still a favourite. I want to live in The OC.

September has also been the months for events. I went to The Curve Fashion Festival in Liverpool, I had an amazing time and it really relight my fire to get back into doing fashion posts.

BlogOnMSI will have also happened after I write this post. It will be my 4th event and I'm trying to put any event anxiety behind me. I'm going to go. No expectations, not try and please people. Just chat, say hello to as many people as possible and maybe learn some new things.

I finally went to The Vintage Cupcake Kitchen in Saddleworth for afternoon tea with my friends, we also had a wander round a craft fair and had a couple of drinks in a pub beer garden.

There are a couple of other events coming up such as I've finally booked a hair cut and a second holiday which isn't until December but I'm sure it will come round fast.

Hopefully as this goes live there will also be a Youtube video showing the highlights and I'd love it if you check that out. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel and leave me a comment.
